“MightyMay” Maylin

Maylin is a 5 year old from Montana, who loves to go toy shopping, playing in the sand and water. She especially loves her fury dog, a Goldendoodle named Kona. She has 2 older sisters, Lainey, who is 9 years old and Dawsyn, who is 6 years old. They are the 3 musketeers. They are always playing…from babies to doctors, coloring to art projects. “Her sisters are Maylin’s biggest cheerleaders,” Maylin’s mom, Meagan, proudly shares. They are a close-knit family. One of Maylins favorite things to do is go out to restaurants to eat with mom and dad. Sometimes she will call and invite Gramma and Grandpa.

In August of 2022 Maylin was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable brain stem tumor. For her cancer treatment Maylin and her mom either fly or drive 550 miles from Montana to Utah. When they are away from home, Kona is the thing Maylin misses most. Meagan shares that “In the last year we have had to travel to Salt Lake City, UT from Billings, MT monthly, sometimes weekly. A lot of our trips were unplanned and last minute. Compass to Care has been nothing short of amazing to our family. They came into our lives when funds were short, and we were having to travel most of the time. They were always so quick on booking our airline tickets to get Maylin (back and forth to receive) care.”

Traveling is hard for Maylin, she is a homebody and likes to stay with her family. To better prepare her, a couple days before making the trip they start talking about what Maylin’s upcoming appointments will look like. Mom also shared, “Compass to Care has had such a positive impact on our family. They stepped in to help us get our daughter the care she needed.”

Meagan shares inspiring words to any families getting a cancer diagnosis… you will be a ball of emotions, nothing will make sense, your life has drastically changed. As things may not make sense, reach out to foundations like Compass to Care. They help things make sense and they make you not feel so alone in your journey. They are full of information that can help ease all the emotions, they can help to ensure your child is getting the exact care they need to fight this awful disease.

“Thank you Compass to Care for taking this journey along with us and being our saving grace”. Meagan, Tyler, Lainey, Dawsyn & “MightyMay” Maylin.
