A beacon of hope amidst adversity

Peter is a 9-year-old from a close-knit family in Texas. He has 3 younger brothers! Peter is braving a pediatric cancer called Medulloblastoma. Because of his cancer treatment, he is currently taking classes at home every day for 2nd grade. He looks forward to feeling better and returning to school with his classmates.

Peter loves spending time outdoors and plays outdoors for hours. He especially enjoys driving his UTV outside. Peter likes playing video games and putting together Lego sets. Peter and his family’s favorite hobby to do together is taking trips to the beach and renting a boat.

In the face of daunting challenges, Peter shows strength, unity, and an indomitable spirit. Extended family has been pitching in and watching his brothers while his mom travels with Peter to his cancer treatments. The family travels 338 miles to Pete’s cancer treatment. Because of generous donors, Compass to Care has helped Peter and his family make 46 trips to the Children’s Hospital in Texas.

Peter’s mom, Eloiza, shared, “Ojalá que podamos seguir contando con su ayuda para los gastos de gasoline.” Translation: I hope we can continue to count on your help for gasoline.

Peter continues chemotherapy treatments, 5 out of 9 cycles of chemotherapy have already been completed and each time he is hospitalized for about 3 days. Peter and his mom travel every week on Friday to his cancer treatments. Peter’s mom told us, “I want to share that God is good and we have so much faith that Peter will surpass this cancer. I also want to share that Peter had a recent MRI done and results came back clear with no signs of tumors in his head and spine.”

Life’s journey sometimes presents us with unexpected hurdles. Spending time together creates resilience in families, like Peter’s family, and serves as a beacon of hope amidst adversity.
