With a Little Help from Doc McStuffins: Aubree’s Journey To Remission

Aubree is a lively, humorous, and exceptionally bright little girl. Her laughter is contagious, and her sense of humor stands out as one of her most remarkable gifts. Aubree’s story is not just one of courage, but also one of hope and inspiration for others facing similar battles. The way she has embraced her journey, maintaining her joy and trust in the process, speaks volumes about her strength and the support system around her.

In 2021, shortly after relocating from New York to South Carolina, Aubree’s world was turned upside down with an unexpected diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her days of attending school, playing with friends, and riding her new bike quickly shifted to frequent and extended hospital stays—sometimes lasting up to half a month at a time—replacing the simple joys of childhood with countless medical appointments and treatments.

These moments required significant adjustments to Aubree’s parents work schedules and involved two-hour drives at all hours, often feeling like an eternity as they rushed to get her to the hospital for spiking fevers. Although the poking and needles were exhausting, she approached these experiences as if she were simply going for a regular checkup, inspired by her favorite show: Doc McStuffins.

Throughout her treatment, she bravely faced neuropathy pain, stomach aches, daily steroid medications, chemotherapy, and persistent nausea. None of the challenges Aubree faced— physically, mentally, or emotionally—at just 5 years old, should ever be something a child has to endure. Despite everything, she still finds joy amidst the chaos, finding comfort in the love of her friends and family.

Aubree’s passions include Disney princesses, unicorns, zoos, puzzles, painting, drawing, and anything artistic. She loves swimming and playing with her younger sister and friends. She has a soft spot for giraffes, and is adored by her two dogs, Babs and Buster, her two rabbits, Salty and Sally, and her tortoise, Slow Mo.

Thanks to the help of Compass to Care and the generosity of our amazing donors, Aubree and her family were able to get to and from 44 treatments without having to worry about the cost.

In June 2024, Aubree rang the bell! Marking the end of her treatment and the start of her remission, Aubree is officially cancer-free and is now enjoying each moment, bouncing around without a worry in the world. Since this milestone, Aubree and her family have been actively sharing her story and advocating for pediatric cancer awareness, meeting other families facing similar challenges. A few words from her parents: “We always remind them to keep their heads up, hold onto hope, and trust in the doctors—just like we did.”
